Moments that sparkle in Year 3

Year 3 are our first year group in Riverside, and although they might now feel like the smallest children in the school, that doesn’t diminish the sparkle we like to sprinkle on their learning!

A Eureka moment!

Science learning is fantastic at Riverside, but sometimes the topic really comes alive when you can incorporate museums such as Eureka in Halifax into the half term, which is what we do in Year 5 when we learn all about teeth and the digestive system!

We never assume children have had experiences in places such as Eureka, and hope our introduction might inspire future visits on weekends and half terms.

Amazing Architecture!

We’re very lucky to have Mrs Taylor as our Art Co-ordinator, whose first degree was in the Arts. Year 3 are also lucky to have her as their teacher, as this means they get the benefit of her expertise each week in their learning, particularly when it artists such as Frederic Hundertwasser!

We want children to have a breadth of art experiences - not only paint and pencil but sculpture, clay and much, much more!

Hockey heroes!

Sometimes sport is just about the older children in Years 5 and 6, but we love to have sparkle moments of sporting competition for our younger children too in Years 3 and 4. Our recent hockey victory over three local schools being a highlight of this year. Having a larger playground means we often host these events, and being on home turf, we often win them too ;-)

We want the whole curriculum to shine - not just Maths and English - as all children have strengths that need championing and given opportunities to shine!
