Moments that sparkle in Year 6

Year 6 is the last year to invest in our children and although every year is special in the Federation, Year 6 has that little bit extra sparkle to send them on their way to secondary with a skip in their step.

5-day residential

We prioritise a residential trip at the start of the year as not only does it bond the children and teachers together quickly, we’ve realised that the independence, confidence and skills brought back from this trip are better utilised through the rest of their time in school, rather than discovered as an end of year treat.

For many, this represents the pinnacle experience of their time at the Federation.

End of year musical

Year 6 wouldn’t be the same without our end of year show spectacular musical! We’ve covered Oliver! The Lion King! and many, many more…

On top of being a great opportunity for the children to have a fitting send off from Primary school, it’s also a chance to flex those creative muscles and show a side to the children’s characters in front of an appreciative audience.

With our partnership with The Little Theatre, all of this happens on a proper theatre stage…where else can your child experience this?

Experience being an evacuee

World War 2 is a brilliant topic, but to further lift the learning off the page (or interactive whiteboard) in Year 6, the children learn what it’s like to be an evacuee. Dressed up, suitcase in hand, they’re met at the station and brought to school, where they bivouac down in the hall for the night. They’ll experience an air raid, take shelter, eat ‘rationed’ meals for supper and sing a few old war time tunes to keep the spirits up.

It’s these learning experiences that are not just about what’s on the whiteboard, that make Riverside, and the whole Federation, such a great place for your child to learn.
